Here’s some good news for you Windows Mobile fanatics out there. Microsoft has just announced that Windows Mobile 6.5 devices will begin rolling out starting on October 6th.

Windows Mobile 6.5

As far as the North American region is concerned, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon are the US carriers that have already signed up to be part of Microsoft’s latest endeavor with Bell and Telus as their Canadian counterparts. HP, HTC, LG, Samsung, and Toshiba, meanwhile, are the manufacturers who will be releasing these new devices in the region. Going down south of the equator in Latin America, TIM Brazil is the lone operator on the list complemented by phone makers HTC, LG, and Samsung. European carriers Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG, and Vodafone, for their part, are joined by manufacturers such as Acer, HTC, LG, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and Toshiba. On the other side of the globe, NTT DoCoMo, SoftBank Mobile, SK Telecom, Telstra, and WILLCOM are the official carrier reps in Asia Pacific flanked by phone makers Acer, HTC, LG, Toshiba, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung.

While no particular phone model was mentioned as being the first in line, based on previous reports, we’re expecting the HTC Mega to be one of them and perhaps even the XPERIA X2 will be unveiled as well. There was also talk about Samsung working on an Armani Windows Mobile 6.5 powered phone, but details about that are still pretty scarce as of this posting. The Samsung Omnia 2, on the other hand, is very official already, and based on this latest announcement from the Redmond based company, it looks like Austria won’t be the sole country to have Windows Mobile 6.5 flavored Omnia 2 phones in their market.
