Samsung fan boys will be happy to know that the Omnia 2 has just gotten FCC approved for distribution in the North American region.

Bundled with 850/1900MHz, this new Omnia phone will most likely debut on AT&T (US) and Rogers (Canada). Also known as the Samsung i8000, the Omnia II is definitely a powerhouse as far as features are concerned. Its got a fast 800MHz processor, 5-megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash, face/smile detection and other imaging features, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, GPS/A-GPS, DivX/XviD support, 3.5mm jack, 8/16GB internal memory expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB total), and has the TouchWiz 2.0 UI with 3D effects running on top of Windows Mobile 6.1.

That's pretty impressive for me, but for you skeptics out there, here’s a decently thorough walk-through video (courtesy of Nowhere Else) that should convince you how good the Samsung Omnia 2 really is:

Unfortunately, we still don’t have an idea on when it will actually be released in the market or its selling price. Anyway, considering it's FCC approved already, it shouldn't be long now before we see this baby out in the market and available for retail.
