The Samsung Omnia has been pitted against the iPhone on several occasions in the past. With such a storied rivalry, we’re pretty much expecting the same scenario with the iPhone 3GS and the new Omnia 2 pictured below.

The exact model name of the Omnia 2 is the Samsung GT-I8000. Based on what we can tell by the provided image, it appears that it features the same design elements found on the Samsung S8000 and M8000 mobile phones. As far as its specs go, the Samsung GT-I8000/Omnia 2 comes with a 3.7-inch WVGA 800x480 AMOLED display, 8.1-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, VGA video recording at 30fps, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G connectivity, and 150MB internal memory expandable via microSD card. It still runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, but will come with the new TouchWiz user interface.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when this will become available. Likewise, without any official word from Samsung, we still can’t classify this one as legit and true. On the good side, however, Samsung has an event scheduled next week (June 15) which basically means we might not have to wait long to get the official details on the Samsung GT-I8000.
