Apple App Store reaches 1 Billion Downloads

The Apple App Store has done it! They’ve now surpassed the 1 billion mark in app downloads in less than a year since they’ve opened up the App Store for business.

It merely took them 9 months to achieve this feat with apps such as Bejewelled 2, Super Monkey Ball and Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D leading the pack in the paid apps category. Top free apps include Google Earth, Pandora Radio, and my most used app, Facebook. Notice that all of the leading paid apps are all games. This just goes to show how gaming truly plays a vital role in the success of a mobile device and its auxiliary services.

With the Palm Pre just recently giving us a glimpse of its gaming prowess, hopefully it can match the iPhone’s success as a gaming device apart from being a mobile phone/mobile internet device.
