No doubt, the new iPhone 3GS will be the talk of the town in the next couple of days (or even weeks), but let’s not forget, there are other noteworthy phones in the market. In particular, the Palm Pre is now available on Sprint.

To further prove that the hype surrounding Palm’s latest smartphone is by no means a fluke, analysts have deemed the launch of the Palm Pre a success as reported by ZDNet. The exact sales figures for the first two days aren’t out yet, but they are expecting it to exceed 50,000. It would have probably been more, possibly even matching Apple’s opening day sales for their iPhone, if only more stock was available. Nonetheless, given with what they had to work with, Palm should be very proud of the Pre with the very positive reception its getting from consumers.

The big question now is; can they ride on the Pre’s momentum and make a comeback in the industry? They’ve got huge plans for their new webOS platform and App Catalog, their version of the app store, but all of it will be for naught if they can’t have capitalize on the initial success of the Palm Pre. Add the fact that the iPhone 3GS is just lurking around the corner, its definitely a steep upward climb for Palm on their journey to reclaim their lost glory.
