About the platform

About Android

Android is the operating system running on most of the world’s smartphones — from entry-level budget phones to ultra-premium flagships. It powers devices from Samsung, Google, Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Sony, and dozens of other manufacturers, giving you more hardware variety than any other platform.

The biggest advantage of Android is choice. You can spend $150 or $1,500 and find a phone built around your priorities — whether that’s camera quality, battery life, screen size, durability, or raw performance. Use the Brand and Budget filters above to narrow down phones that match how you actually use your device.

Updates and software support

Android versions vary by manufacturer. Google’s own Pixel phones and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy line now offer up to seven years of OS updates — among the longest in the industry. Mid-range and budget models typically receive two to four years of support. Check each phone’s software section in our reviews to see exactly how long updates are guaranteed, and how we factor that into the Compass Score.

Ecosystem and apps

Android gives you full access to the Google Play Store — over three million apps — plus deep integration with Gmail, Maps, Photos, Drive, and the rest of Google’s services. Many manufacturers add their own app stores and allow sideloading, giving power users more flexibility than any other mobile platform. If you prefer a cleaner, closer-to-stock experience, look at Google Pixel or select Motorola models.

Android vs iPhone

Choosing between Android and iPhone comes down to ecosystem, price flexibility, and how much you value customization. Android wins on hardware variety and price range; iOS leads on long-term software consistency and cross-device integration. Use our comparison tool to put any two phones head-to-head and see exactly how they differ on camera, battery, display, and performance.

This might seem strange but this is the answer: When answering a call, one needs touch and swoop finger upward, then one will find that the call is answered.

Dear All, Connecting your Huawei Ascend Y330 to your computer can be a frustrating process when we all have become accustomed to plug in and play. My computer runs on VISTA and I plugged in via. the supplied USB cable. A menu eventually appeared on my phone giving me some options, to manage my files, download HiSuite or via. wireless using a coded connection number supplied on my phone screen. All of these options connected me but I strongly recommend downloading HiSuite regardless, by obeying the instructions that appear on your computer screen. I hope this is helpful but I found the whole process frustrating and not straight forward in this day and age of instant connectivity. How could Huawei got this so wrong ? Best of luck Dr.Robert T. To transfer photos and other files from your phone to your computer you need to set the microSD card as USB mass storage. Just connect your mobile phone to your computer with the USB cable. Your computer will detect the microSD card as a removable disk. You can now transfer files from your PC to your mobile phone’s microSD card.

Press the Home button and the power button at the same time. You can also download third party apps from Google Play. I would recommend No Root Screenshot It. With most screenshot apps, you need to root your phone first before you can use it, with this app there is no rooting needed. Hey Danny. A similar question has already been posted. You can check my answer from the link below: How do you transfer photos from the Samsung I5510 to computer?

Thank you Grindale When I add a new contact (with that person’s number), I can view my communication with that contact. To do this, I go to home screen, go to contacts, browse that person in contacts, and flick left (two times) and now I can view SMSs. As I mentioned I deleted all SMSs from inbox. So it supposed nothing to be seen in contacts (when I view my communication with that contact). But it shows one SMS! My second problem is that I can’t delete that SMS in contacts. The SMS also doesn’t appear in inbox! How is this possible? This may show although I deleted SMSs, my Xperia keeps data in memory! How can I delete all SMSs completely? And how can I feel sure with that?

You mentioned seeing a text message from that person in your address book. How did that happen? Text messages can only be viewed through your inbox. If you can please provide more details so we can help. Thanks!
