About the brand

About LG

Few cell phone manufacturers have received as much attention as LG over the past several years, mainly because they keep coming out with great devices. LG is responsible in large part for turning cell phones into show phones, with sexy form factors, brushed metal fascias and functionality to back up the good looks.

LG is an enormous multinational corporation with 75 subsidiaries throughout the world, but their cell phone division has truly been one of their showpieces. You may be familiar with the “Shine Line” of phones that include a number of shiny flips and sliders that have racked up huge sales for carriers.

By 2005 LG was a Top 100 global brand. In addition to great cell phones, LG is the largest manufacturer of liquid crystal displays.

The company got its start in 1958 under the name GoldStar, making radios, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners.

There has been reports of processor glitches in the first generation LG. This happens when there are to many programs running in the background when a call is place or a text is sent or recieved. The data is not stored do to the glitch which causes the phone not to recieve or send data. This problem is a programmers error, which can be fixed by getting a larger processor which can be hard as well as expensive to replace. A much simpler and Less expensive solution to the problem is to end tasks manually by killing all running programs. This can be done by holding down the home button for3 second then pressing end all tasks and running apps.

My cell phone (LG 290C) is having a party since I got home from class. In the thirty minutes I have been browsing for an answer, the phone has shut off and restarted all by itself at least 15 times. It won't stay on long enough to do anything. It does not make a difference whether I let the phone sit, or if I try to send a text, open the web browser, make a call, it will just randomly shut off. Up until a week ago (I have owned this phone for five months) it worked perfectly. In the last week it randomly shut off twice, but that's all until today, when it had this major problem. I wish I had the answer. If anyone can tell me anything please do. On here, or email me at natalie_smarty_sweet@hotmail.com

You have to create folders for your media. I believe they are as follows.mp3/ AUDIO/ VIDEO/I think there's also option on your phone to format the MiniSD Card to automatically create those directories.. but i'm not positive. In regards to ringtone/mp3's.. I don't have a datacable yet, but I heard that if you change your mp3's to the same name as a ringtone and limit it to 30seconds, you are able to.. but I haven't tested it yet. There is something on one of these forums somewhere on it. Now.. if only there were stereo headphones or something for this system.. hmm..

Hey, had that problem with MP3's already. The file name is charater sensitive and cannot have any symbols etc in the file name or it will be initialised on the Mini-SD. If you are already at that point with your phone make sure that you re-format your Mini SD internally in your PC before re-saving anything on your card. Good luck, I had to trade my first one three days ago and this new one has been working well since then. Good luck. . . :)

Hi again Terri, I've been going through the manual myself and I have to agree with you. It doesn't mention anything about chat view for messages in the inbox at all. Are you sure you have managed to access this feature in the past, and saw message threads with separate text bubbles for sender and recipient? Try going to Inbox and pressing Options near the top right corner of the screen to see if you find a relevant option there. Or if that doesn't help, open any one message in the Inbox to see if the option might be present there instead. Let us know how it goes!

(I think) I'm viewing messages in the Inbox. This is what I posted elsewhere: How do I set the cell to show an ongoing text conversation? I can answer a text, but can't see the text to which I responded. It only shows the sender's name and a few words for several incoming or outgoing texts. But now and then I accidentally touch something that shows the whole convo - in balloons, like a comic strip. The manual is not helpful. It only answers minimal questions. Thanks!

PART ONE To create the folders needed to transfer files to your card: 1) Make sure your battery is charged, the phone won't recognize your card if your battery is 3/4 empty or more 2) Obviously, make sure your card is in the phone! 3) From standby mode press following buttons: MENU-->SETTINGS-->MINI SD CARD-->RESET CARD-->RESET 4) Turn off your phone and remove your Mini SD Card 5 )And you're done part one!!!PART 2 To get files on your SD card to work you need: 1) A card reader (got mine from tigerdirect.ca for $15) 2) The Mini SD card adapter (should be inlcuded when you bought your Mini SD Card), so it can fit in the regular SD card sized slot of your reader now.............. 1) Setup and connect your card reader to your PC 2) Insert the Mini SD card into the SD adapter 3) Insert the SD adapter into the card reader 4) Find the appropiate drive the reader corresponds to in relation to your SD adapter 5) Once you find the appropiate drive, begin to drag files to the MP3 folder 6) Remember to not put any funny characters in the file names (only put letters, numbers or dashes) or else the phone won't read the file 7) Your now free to enjoy your newly uploaded music!!!!!!As well to put videos on your phone.....you need to download the Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0...just google the name of the program and you'll find a ton of places to download it from....After you converted video files with the program, simply drag the converted files to the VIDEO folder of your Mini SD Card.HAPPY PHONE-ING!!!!!!

Lock code can be a 4, 5 or 6 digit number. Common default lock codes are: - 1234 - 12345 - 123456 - 0000 - 00000 - 00000It can also be the last 4 digits of your phone number. To find out what exactly the lock code is, call your carrier and they will provide you with your lock code, considering you haven't changed the default lock code yet.

I have already gone through all of this, I came across this page in yet another attempt at finding software compatible with the LG 2000. Here's the info I've got: *I was able to get a USB cable for this phone from e-bay, unfortunately, the software is NOT compatible with the phone, so basically the only thing the cable is good for is for charging the phone. *There doesn't seem to be ANY software in existance - if you happen to find some, don't get your hopes up, it won't do the things you'll want it to do (unless you only want it to load your contact list to your PC). *LG has software on their website, but the LG 2000 is pretty much the only model not listed for compatibility. A Fido customer service rep who said he used to be a technician told me that the LG software should work even if this model is not listed, after all, it IS an LG phone. Only, wasting $10 for a cable is one thing, I'm not willing to waste another $39.99, plus tax and shipping. I've resigned myself to the fact that I made a mistake. I've learned my lesson, in the future I will do my research before buying. At least I only paid $30 for the phone because I signed another contract with Fido, and along with it I got 6 months of unlimited text messaging. I haven't received my bill yet, so I'll have to see if they do charge me for all the pictures I e-mailed myself. It is a nice phone, it's just really disappointing that they've nabbed so many people with this problem. All just to make another buck, eh?

Okay, I'm confused. I bought my wife an LG 2000 without realizing this would be an issue. We really don't care about uploading anything to the phone, but it's really important to us to be able to download photos. I haven't heard anything specific about this yet.We use Fido prepaid-can't send the photos to the web album they offer. I guess it's for contract holders only. Will having a data cable allow us to get the pics off the phone? Will we need software, or drivers, and where do they come from? LG canada is useless on this issue, Fido of course won't help.OR, if that's out, does anyone know if we can send the pics to another phone that does support downloading? Fido pre-paid info is unclear about sending pics.Thanks.

you need to put your SD card in, go to your settings menu, select (9)- mini SD card, (5) - reset card, (1) Reset. this gives you the folders needed to dump mp3 files in the mp3 folder. make shure file names are not too long otherwise they wont play. then open the folder containing your sd card and you can just click and drag. as for video.... it needs to be converted to a 3G format (.3G3)

I had the lg 535, and did the exact same thing you've done, with the same result. You have to load the mp3's onto the card with a card reader/writer in Windows Media Player format for some reason, and then it will work. I don't know why, but that's the way it worked for me. The palm (mine's a Tungsten E2) puts them in RealOne format, which the phone doesn't like. Good luck!
