What the Critics Are Saying...

Stuff

Sony's best phone to date combines display, camera and performance prowess into a single desirable package. It slips down in a few minor areas, but not enough to stop it warning the full five stars.

- Tom Morgan, Stuff
GSMArena

Design is trendy without compromising continuity, battery life is hard to complain about, and the great image quality no longer surprises us. The up to date OS at launch is a nice bonus too; we wish others would be this speedy with adoption. Brand loyalists will no doubt love it, but we have a feeli...

TechRadar

Sony's new Xperia XZ3 is similar to the Xperia XZ2, but a brand new screen technology takes it a step further and gives it a display that looks to compete with some of the best phones on the market.

- James Peckham, TechRadar
BGR

I never thought that I would say this but I’m really thinking of using a Sony Xperia smartphone after using the Xperia XZ3 at IFA. This is the smartphone that Sony should have given us – the consumers – nearly two years ago. But as they say, its better late than never.

- Karthekayan Iyer, BGR
Digital Trends

We’re keen to spend some more time with the Sony Xperia XZ3, and the OLED looks great, but when you consider that it will cost more than the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, it’s hard to escape the conclusion that it’s too expensive.

Finally, the Xperia flagship we've been waiting for

from Pocket-lint

The Sony Xperia XZ3 is the Xperia flagship we've been waiting a long time for. It finally pushes design boundaries, while offering what appears to be a great display, plenty of power and a refined software experience with some good extras.

The Xperia XZ3 brings welcome changes to Sony’s ever-evolving lineage of high-end smartphones. The move to OLED was long overdue, and we’re glad to see Sony modernize its design. Android Pie out of the box is a strong selling point, as is the powerful camera. But the core specs are slightly behind the curve, and Sony has the terrible habit of not supporting its releases with proper marketing.

With almost identical internal specifications to the Xperia XZ2, what you’ll be paying (presumably) extra for in October is a very nice screen. The trouble is there are plenty of phones with excellent OLED screens available right now, and almost all of them have the same familiar Snapdragon 845 and 4GB RAM combo, to boot. In short, it doesn’t feel like technology has come on sufficiently to depose the XZ2 from the head of the lineup.
