The W600i is fun to use and ideal for music fans and casual shutterbugs
Truly good mobile phone for all those, who love music and technological innovations
I dare say that this new phone from Sony Ericsson could have become a real Christmas hit, only if the manufacturer had designed it to support the usage of memory cards. The W550 model combines two gifts in one device - a Walkman and a mobile phone - and all this for the reasonable price of approximately 280 euros. Yet, its winning race will probably be stopped by the lack of memory card slot. The trouble gets even more serious considered the fact that the forerunner Sony Ericsson W800 is being already sold at a price not much higher.

good idea bad design
had tis phone for a year and a half.. first of all sony had a great idea making it but the design is bad. i got this phone after being told by rogers staff (no kidding) THAT IT WAS A GREAT PHONE ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WOULD GET DISCOUNTINUED shortly after i bought it. Pros: loud speakers (only for music playing not while talking in calls) unique swivel design can use your music as ringtones good music phone my battery lasted weeks if i left it on and talked about 5 minutes a day on it hard to break can change face plates good reception Cons: if you do lots of talking or travelling not good for you music makes the batery die very fas (half anhour on a full battery) battery dies fast if you talk on it for like half an hour :| huge bulky design hard to it in pockets bad microphone picks up fuzzy tones bad placing of buttons/ shortcuts (you always hit the internet abd musiic button accidently) small screen turns off by it's self frequently an micphone to talk to people sometimes doesnt work i wouldnt reccomend this phoneLess
Phone died and shut off all the time
First off, the phone is very quiet. Even when I have it on speakerphone, its hard to hear and I am a young person with great hearing. Don't even try talking on this cell phone while driving on a highway, you won't hear anything, which might be a plus since you shouldn't be talking on your cell phone while driving. The camera is sub-par, texting is decent, the MP3 player works pretty good. Now for the REAL issues. After owning the phone for about a year, it would start to turn off randomly, and this was not a battery issue. It would be fully charged and turn off by itself as I watch. Sometimes when I flipped the phone open to answer a call, it would turn off. And most importantly to all of you out there looking to buy this phone. It completely died on me after owning it for 20 months. This may seem like a decent lifetime, but not for someone like me who would like to save money and use a cell phone for the longest time possible. Overall its an ok phone at best, but after a year, I would start looking for another since it will start giving you problems and headaches until it eventually dies within two years. Isn't it great how Cingular/AT&T require two year contracts, when the phones don't even last that long? Oh, and another thing to mention, my phone died and I barely used it. I texted a total of 20 times and I talked on the phone for maybe 30 minutes a week, so I can't imagine if I used the cell phone as much as most people, it might not have even lasted 6 months.Less
Overall Great Phone
I've had this phone for a year, as all phone there are pros and cons. Pros- camera, video, mp3 player that holds about 40 tunes. The external speakers puts out for a little phone. The phone lets you use mp3 tunes as ringtones, no need to buy ringtones. Its got a cool look, always get head turns. The flash light on the back comes in handy. The Cons- Its kinda thick, but you get use to it. Battery life is not so good, can't put extra memory.Less
Good phone but buyers beware of WSOD!!
Pro: Feature packed, speakers Con: White screen of death, size, non-expandable memory This phone was my second phone after my V3 died on me. In about in a year and half my W600i died as well (white screen of death) and I am still under my 2 yr contract. I had two phones there weren't able to keep up with the 2 year contract. Anyways, when the phone worked, it was great. The music player and features such as the flashlight, alarm that is assignable for each day of the week, great options for the still and video camera. However, these features come at a price, you may not know when you phone will die. Mine just up and died one day. After reading the reviews of how this phone will not be reliable, and still decide to get it, I would recommend storing your pictures and movies every day so you dont loose them. Or just get a service contract. Back to the V3 again, hope it works better this time around.Less
Nice features - IF IT WORKED!
Pro: nice FM radio - mps player Con: heavy - tiny key pad - no gps - and yeah, it stopped working within 6 weeks Bottom line is this phone stopped functioning within 6 weeks of purchase. Cingular and Ericson refused to give me a new phone, no problem since there is only a one month warranty. I just took my business to Verizon, which has been great.Less
This phone is awesome
Pro: It takes awesome pics. Its like no other phone out there, the style neway. All the features on the phone were really good. Con: It takes a little while to get used to its shape and opening it with one hand but it didnt take to long to get it down. The screen is always exposed so screen covers are a must. The memory isn't quite big enough for the mp3's. I have had this phone for almost a year and a half and i'm happy to say that i am not disappointed at all. This phone has everything i wanted. One of the things i didn't like about it is the phones exposed screen, bc you had to keep screen covers on it. I couldn't find ne ones specifically for it so i had to cut down pda ones. All the features on the phone were easy to use and the phone was pretty simple to navigate. This phone is really cool and worth the money.Less
problems with the battery charger
Pro: great phone, good sound quality with the speaker and the headphones included, camera takes a fair pic, has some PDA features Con: battery chargers..i cant say enough bad about them..i have lost count of the number of chargers i have had to buy...they just aren't any good...and because it is sort of an unusual phone, "after market" chargers are not available Buy the phone, its a little complicated at first, but my 8 year old mastered it fairly easily. No matter how much you baby your charger, it will break and a new one runs about 30 bucks..Less
Phone is good but position of buttons awkward
Pro: Design/Looks, Features, Price, walkman Con: Way too heavy, Button position awkward and memory not expandable Bought the phone because I thought it looked Cool. Does have most features that I wanted especially the Walkman. The Phone is way too heavy If you are used to keeping it in your pockets. The Buttons/keys design is not what I what I expected from Sony Ericsson. Overall decent phone for the Price.Less
Pro: has a radio Con: drops calls all the time My phone drops calls all time. maybe its cingulars crappy service, but i think its the phone. pain to swivel it to push keys. takes ok photos, but Ive seen much better on the razor. the radio is cool. its bulky heavy and outdated!Less
Issues withh the screen light!
Pro: Easy to use menu, like the style of it Con: Problems with the backlight, screen to small I bought this phone a few months ago... coming from a PDA phone I can say I was not that displease with it. The screen it's to small, but so is the phone... I have issues with the back light since I bough it. I did the system upgrade and check the manual to resolve the issue and got tired of it... If you are looking for a phone to listen to your music and the regular calling it's good... but texting, emailing becomes a little difficult because the small size of the screen and lack of screen light. Maybe it's only my phone but I took it back and they told me everything was fine :( I end up buying a t mobile dash instead.. it holds less music but for emailing, text, and all the other futures that it has its way better... but once again... it all depends on the features you actually need on your phone...Less
