MobileBurn

An innovative dual-mode clamshell phone

from MobileBurn

The Samsung SCH-u750 Alias 2 is an innovative dual-mode clamshell phone from Verizon, with a professional design and extremely customizable interface. The e-ink keypad automatically changes according to the orientation and status of the phone, allowing for either a standard numeric keypad or a full QWERTY keyboard, whichever would be more appropriate. Thanks to the loud stereo speakers, a microSD card slot, and dedicated music playback buttons, the phone makes a valiant effort at replacing your MP3 player, though unfortunately the 2.5mm audio port makes it inconvenient to keep your music to... MobileBurn

The sluggish and unfriendly Linux UI

from MobileBurn

The Motorola MING is quite the looker but when it came to performance, the sluggish and unfriendly Linux UI let it down. The exclusion of EDGE support is unfortunate. However, Overall, I am happy with the look and feel as well as the options the Samsung SCH-u740 provides, but I definitely struggle with its many quirks. Most such issues seem to be related directly to the Verizon UI or to Verizon's V CAST services. I do certainly love the option of switching from regular predictive text input to a full QWERTY keyboard in one full swing. But I admit, the keyboard does take some getting used to... Full review

Wired

Touch sensitive external MP3 controls look cool and are extremely responsive

from Wired

We love QWERTY phones over here at the Gadget Lab, but the u740 actually made our hearts go pitter-pat. Housed in an attractive "metallic champagne" case, the dual hinged handset sports a 2.2-inch, 262,000 color TFT display coupled with outstanding call quality. Despite a full QWERTY keypad, the 3.6-ounce phone is slim enough to disappear into a front pocket and the itty-bitty keys are surprisingly easy to type on. Pair that with a seamless EVDO connection to Verizon's music, video, web, and email services, and choosing the u740 as your smartphone is pretty much a no brainer.

I have had this phone for about a year and a half now and it has become a love hate relationship over the last 18 months. PROS: full keyboard is awesome for texting Durable ( I have left this phone outside in the rain, dropped it, I have a two year old so she gets a hold of it a lot so I definately haven'y been the gentlest on it) the volume is loud enough for me to here even when it's in my bag CONS: It freezes up on its own and has since day one when you drop it the battery comes out it heats up to be quite hot when charging and always scares me because like I said there is a two year old at my house it doesn't hold a charge well and I find myself charging it every night and by 8pm it's beeping at me because the battery is low like I said it has worked alright for me but here are some cons to it as well but lately I have found myself cursing at it quite a bit Less

Just finished a 2 year term with this phone, and was very satisified with it. Never had to send it in, and the battery is still running pretty stong. The dual flip feature is great for texting, as well as for those who like to flip open to talk. User interface and navigation are simple and easy to get used to. The phone also worked well in bad conditions, having been left in a back pocket while snowboarding and dropped in water; but nothing broke. The few downsides to this phone were the terrible camera, and the music player was somewhat lacking in options and functionality. Overall it is a good all-purpose phone, pretty basic, but sturdy and long lasting. Less

Best phone ever

I love this phone i have had very few problems with it. In a time when everyone is using iphones/blackberrys i find this phone to be more funcutional then them for day to day use without all the expensive black berry service plan fees. Great for texting, and it has a reasonable browser aswell

I have to say I really like this phone. Opposite to what some people said about dropping it, i've dropped it a good few times and all that happens was the battery would pop out. Texting is awesome on this phone, If ya know how to type you can text. The only problem i've been having with mine lately is the top end speaker gave out. It works fine when on speaker phone.. but when it comes to using it like normal i cant hear a thing. I've only had it for 15 months and, of course warranty runs out after 12. This is the first time sending it away. This problem could just be a loose connection somewhere and hopefully not a lot of $$.$$ to fix. Overall I give this phone a 8/10... Less

The outside screen was inside and one point and time so i shut down my phone and restarted it and than i noticed my screen was backwards like a mirror image. My phone shuts off as it pleases and than wont let me turn it back on. And just to point out i take really good care of my phone....dont drop it at all cause its my life. My suggestion is dont get it it will only cause you problems!!! Less

I want to do this through the computer, so it wont cost me. So, here's my question: How the hell do you do it?!? Second problem: Has anyone else had the problem with the internet on your phone? Every one 'n a while, while I'm on the internet, my phone will, like, freeze. It truns black for a second, first, then freezes, then goes off of the internet and back to my screensaver. Um, what is going on here, and can it be fixed? Thanks for any help you can give me! -Robyn Less
