Lightweight, compact, and offers HSDPA 3G data

from MobileBurn

As far as QWERTY keyboard equipped smartphones go, the Samsung SGH-i607 BlackJack is one of the best. It is lightweight, compact, and offers HSDPA 3G data and overall good performance. It is more pocketable than most of its competitors while still offering similar performance.

It does have its shortcomings, though. For example, T-Mobile's Dash offers both better battery life as well as WiFi support, even if its touch sensitive volume control is useless. My personal experience also leads me to believe that the Motorola Q's EV-DO support works far better than the BlackJack's HSDPA system, and that its wider keyboard layout might be a bit more finger friendly. RIM's BlackBerry Pearl would also be a good alternative, if you were looking for something even more phone like...

RIM's BlackBerry Pearl would also be a good alternative, if you were looking for something even more phone like.

In spite of some blemishes, though, I really think that the BlackJack is a fantastic device. It is barely larger than a regular non-smartphone, yet offers all sorts of mobile office type power. It would probably make a good first smartphone for a lot of people who have until now been making use of RAZRs and other feature phones. I give it a "Highly Recommended" rating.

Sound quality. Alot compacted into a decent size phone. Good entertainment learning all the functions.Battery is long lasting Con: The qwerty keyboard is a bit cramped. Kinda confusing what letters from numbers or symbols are because of the same color. Using experience: 1 days Iv only had this for a day. But i like it. Its a well built smart phone. Lots of stuff to do in this phone and i find it fun to learning how it works. I dont find it that hard to use it. Takes some time. But the qwerty keyboard could be a small issue, but its easily learned after a few days of texting. No biggy. I would say get this to anyone, but if had a choose go with the new jack. Better qwerty. But i got this for a deal so why not. Still a good phone. Less

Outstanding Blackjack

from Amazon
This is an outstanding phone. The box included a very thin user's guide -missing some features. The travel charger as well as the USB cable were included in the box. I wish I had received the CD and the Getting Started booklet. Besides this, this phone is slim and has nothing to envy a blackberry.

I purchased this refurbished. It is a great value for the money. Many people complain about the battery life, and initially I did too. But, I found a few websites that talked about changing from G technology to E technolgy via a code. When I first got the phone, the battery did not last the entire day. When I changed the code, the battery life lasted up to three full days. I don't use the internet much, but I do text a lot. The phone is pretty easy to use - I am still trying to figure a few things out. All in all, I really like it. Less

Pro: Easy to use OS. Fast. The task manager makes it easy to stop programs running in the background, making for faster use. Camera works great. Attractive. Con: Reception. Using experience: 8 weeks Best phone Ive ever owned. I didnt get good reception at my house with it, out in the country, but that is samsung phones in general, not just this phone. I have previously owned other samsung phones that gave me the same problem. I bought an antenna booster, which seems to have fixed the issue effortlessly. I would say that the battery life that most have complained about is not that bad. Then again, I NEVER go to sleep without plugging in my phone to the charger anyways, regardless of how much battery is left. I suppose if you were going to be in a dessert, or in the wilderness, without power or a car charging outlet for 3 weeks, you might not like how fast the battery dies. But in my case, Im always at work (where there is an outlet if needed), or in my car (where I have a car charger). Im glad I didnt decide against this phone due to people reviewing it as having a "horrible battery life". So far I havent been disappointed. It hasnt frozen on me, and its relatively easy to use. I think the people who havent been pleased are CEO's who have owned 2,000 dollar smartphones prior to this one or something, because honestly, I havent found a problem with any of its features, or battery life. I got this phone from AT&T almost 2 years ago and it's been one of the worst experiences I've had with any phone. I've owned many phones since 1998 and never had this many problems with one. I am on my 3rd BlackJack since I had to have it exchanged for various problems related to reception and software. The phone itself is not too bad, that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. The software on the other hand, Windows Mobile 5 is absolutely crap. My wife has a Palm Centro with the old palm OS and that is 100 times better than the Mobil 5 I have on mine. Last couple of weeks the phone randomly decides to change the date and I start getting all the reminders for an entire year. That's just one of the many annoyances I've had. I think you get my point and recommendation to stay away from this phone. I've see this phone upgraded to Windows Mobil 6 and it's slightly better but still not good enough to make me buy another Widows Mobile phone. I would recommend that you look into a phone that does not use the Widows Mobile platform. Just my two cents. Less

Samsung BlackJack - worst ever - don't even consider

from Amazon
easily this is the worst phone I have ever owned. the poor battery life has left me stranded on more than one occasion. you must keep a spare battery with you charged and ready at all times. I'd just assume crush it with a hammer and burn its remains in a ritual fire.
