GSMArena

Not only attractive, but also well equipped with modern capabilities

from GSMArena

At the very beginning I was pretty reserved towards Nokia 6131. I did not like its look. What's worse, I considered it to be another standard clamshell. During the tests, however, when I was using Nokia 6131 as my only personal mobile, the phone convinced me of its exceptionality. It turned out however that it offers a huge amount of features, like elegant looks, two displays of exceptional quality, and a whole lot of "user-friendliness" at a very moderate price. The menu is organized logically; functions are detailed, offering high control comfort and brilliant work efficiency. In this aspect, Motorola engineers should take some notes as their new Motorola V3i is far behind Nokia 6131 (both phones are similar in terms of features, specifications and price)...

On the other hand, Nokia 6131 suffers certain drawbacks too. First of all, it is its weak battery; then it is the low camera picture quality, the simplicity of the multimedia player, the unsuitable font used in the active stand-by mode, and the oversensitive camera key.

I 've had this phone with the same battery for three years now.. I have never had a problem with it,reception is good, battery life is good, although after three years is getting to be less than when new. Ok it doesn't have any cool features, but if you want a simple reliable phone that lasts and can take the occasional drop to the floor, and still work good this is it...I can't understand people saying that they had to change 3-5 or even 11 of these ..they must really be abusing them. I get reception everywhere ,and I work mostly in peoples' basements. My contract is up in April..I just hope I can get another one of these! Less

I am a security guard, and have had this phone for about 2 years now, and I really don't want to get rid of it. This thing has been dropped, stepped on, rained on, and had everything done to it. I have so much water damage from being outside in the rain, working on the phone, that the indicators on the battery are gone, and some of the black sticker/paint(actually most of) is gone, but the phone has NEVER stopped working. I have only lost calls when I go into tunnels, or down into the subway, or in a cement area, but I have never dropped a call outside of those regular places, and I've never had to do any reparations/replacements on it. I'm still using the original battery(which, like others have said, is sorely lacking), as well as the original housing. Only recently did I get a nice crack on the front screen, and a big 'ole chip around the front screen(from being dropped one too many times) But the phone still works as though I just pulled it out of the box and charged it. I sometimes work in very loud areas(Factories, construction sites, clubs), and the very loud speaker/ringer on this phone is perfect for those high noise areas, because I can hear my phone over them. The speaker also plays music amazingly, if you adjust the equalizer properly. And the screen is bright enough that you can see it no matter when, and read it perfectly, which, again, is perfect in my line of work. I really, REALLY don't want to get rid of this cell phone, but i'm going to have to, soon :( Less

I actually have had about 11 of these, as they kept breaking and it was cheaper to just get another under warranty rather than buy a new phone. This was the first cell phone I decided to buy. The first time I decided to replace it under warranty was when it froze and I couldn't get it to work again. Eventually, this happened ten more times before my contract expired and they gave me a new MUCH BETTER Sony Ericsson. It will freeze if you are an avid cell phone user. Everyone who has had the following problems are those who use their cell phones frequently: It will freeze when you are texting too often. It will ALWAYS freeze when you miss a call. It will freeze if when you start it, you press any button too quickly. Some cell phone experts say that flip phones die much sooner than bar phones because they have a special cord running between the screen and the keyboard, and this will break. I am convinced that due to the added velocity while opening this phone thanks to the button that snaps it open (yes, this is a convenient feature) this cord will break a lot faster than even most flip phones. As well, it has this odd problem where it will distort your voice when you make a phonecall. Most of my 11 phones would do this, to different degrees, and I found several other users with the same problem. The things that are good are that it does have exceptional memory for storing text messages and pictures. You will be able to store more than 7000 text messages in your inbox alone, plus a number of pictures. It is an attractive phone, and it is very user friendly for things like texting, and you can manipulate the details very easily. I suppose this phone would be okay if you are a low cell phone user, as most of the problems seem to occur when my phone was overwhelmed (with such a difficult task of receiving a phone call..). Otherwise, stay far far away. Less

The size is nice fits great in my purse or my pocket but the reception is just horrible and I get a lot of feedback I will have to hang up and recall the person. Some times the camera will take a decent picture other times it is grainy and horrible. I have had issues with my battery fulling charging even though it was plugged in all night. I do not suggest it. Less

My only complaint is the battery life, which is lacking. I have to charge it every two to three days, or it dies. This is a little aggravating , but I've learned to just plug it into the charger every night, and no more problems. Overall, a great quality phone! Less

Nokia 6126 - I used the phone for a year now. It is well built and does basic functions well. re: some complaints by others - Pl. note that there is no protruding Antenna in this model...it is embedded inside the phone(below the microphone). So if you clutch your fingers around the bottom of the phone while talking, you may feel call drop/fading. Battery life is comparable with other phones. Make sure Bluetooth is set to OFF when not used. The battery-life indicator is not accurate. The phone charger connector is an easy to use simple round plug, unlike the flimsy multi pin connector in Motorola phones. The camera photos in daytime are amazingly clear. Same with the any wallpapers you download. Understandably, low light photos/ videos aren't great. Bluetooth is perfect. It syncs up with your pc for quick uploads/downloads. I believe one could use it for music as well. Call volume is ok, bot not exceptional. The phone is long, so there's some getting used to for the ideal position for the ear. Note that most cell phone cases have only a tiny opening made for the earphone and if the case slides out during a call, it may feels like call fading. Use a small scissor to cut a slightly larger hole for the ear piece. Outside display shows the clock, which is useful. The camera button is too close to on-off button, not good. There is also a useful voice recording feature. Since I didn't use the phone as a music player, cannot comment. It may not be a trendy phone for the youngsters, but 6126 is a solid WORLD/ quad band phone. Buy a memory card and a case. Less
