previously I had been using a Motorola Nextel i730. my biggest peeve with that phone was the horrible Web-based text messaging interface. also I constantly had dropped calls with Nextel's voice network, and their data network left much to be desired as well. I was already interested in the new line of hybrid phones, and then my father received an ic502 from his place of employment. after getting to use it a bit, I found out that text-messaging on the Sprint data network was not Web-based (and I could send messages directly from my contacts list). I was pretty much sold. I also was drawn to the larger screen, the multiple-line external display, and being able to keep the PTT functionality. I purchased the phone just five weeks ago, and already I am finding things about this model that irritate me. first of all, the Word English text input system is totally flawed. I write a LOT of text messages, and I text-type fast. so I found that if you type a word in fast enough, the phone trips over itself while accessing its word dictionary and misreads the buttons you've pressed. (example: if you type "tomorrow" (86667769) at a rate of about four buttons per second -- not rapid by any means for a seasoned text messager -- it might come out as "tomortmy" (86667869). for some reason the phone changes your second 7 to an 8. more rapid rates of input result in more wildly inaccurate reads.) this is a serious flaw that should never have made it outside of Motorola's quality control department. and, I might add, I never had this issue with the i730. also, just the other night, I had the phone set to Vibrate Only while it was on my home charger, and then I received a call, and the phone rang out loud. just to be sure, after I silenced the call, I checked the volume setting and it was still on Vibrate Only. how can somebody sell a phone that does that? contrary to what I've read, I have indeed been able to charge the phone via a U... It's a good phone the only thing I do not like about it is a. The screen is small and not that good of quality either and b. It's a little bulky compared to other phones today. Well you do get what you pay for anyway on the other hand I wouldn't say it’s such a bad phone it has improved on its reception while still maintaining its walkie-talkie feature a big plus. The battery life is great I used it for 2 weeks on a single charge very good. Compared to the i870 (the phone I used to have) It’s less annoying because Motorola has changed the ringer types and voicemail options. Overall I say it’s a good phone to have my other choice would have been the Nextel/Sprint ic902 which I hear it is the best hybrid out I would have gotten that phone If I had a little more money but If you short on money to point where you just need a phone this is your best choice in the Sprint /Nextel network that still has walkie-talkie. This phone was put out to be a top of the line overachieving phone model with its capability to track off of too different phone services, Sprint and Nextel, but everyone including myself has come to mutual agreement that this phone is the biggest piece of junk that nextel has come up with. I back up my opinion with this, the phone has capabilities of putting nextel customers on the phone in areas that nextel didnt cover before...however you cant make phone calls in areas that nextel customers could before because the phone only recieves and places calls in sprint coverage areas not nextel areas, although you can still use beep beep in those areas but you cant in sprint areas, thats why I decided to trash the phone or give it away whichever comes first and i just placed an order for a i870 NEXTEL ONLY PHONE. Thank You for your request, Sincerely, David Holmes Less

This phone really packs a punch. Dont know where your at? Hop on the Java Based Naviagtion App "TeleNav" Find out where your at, where your headed, and get voice Turn By Turn Driving Directions. Tired of the old boring Ring Ring? Well Download them from the sprint store, With the high quality Stereo speaker, Ringtones sound like CD quality. And just to give you an idea of how tough this phone is, I put my ceiling fan on high and threw it up there. It flew across the room hit the wall and fell on the stone floor. I was amazed. I dont recommend doing this but for a phone thats that tough, I think it deserves a better grade than just meeting military specs. Less
