HTC 5800 review

5.7/10 AVG.
RATING

5.7/10
Informr score
The HTC 5800 currently has an Informr score of 5.7 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 36 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

HTC’s 5800 is a powerful, EVDO-capable, entry into the PDA market. With a candy bar form factor and slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, the 5800 maintains a comfortable size (4.07” x 2.01” x 0.76”), without sacrificing functionality.

When closed, the 5800 has the standard 12-key keypad, and additional buttons are placed in familiar places.

The HTC 5800 runs on the now standard Windows Mobile 6 OS, and the 2.4” display lists recently used apps along the top, and text and voicemail alerts below.

Since the HTC 5800 does not use a touch screen interface, the user will rely heavily on the D-pad, which some users have said can become uncomfortable after a time.

The slide-out keyboard is backlit for easy viewing, however there is not spacing between the keys, which could make typing difficult.

Additional features include:

  • - GPS
  • - BT 2.0
  • - Picture ID
  • - Ringer ID
  • - Voice Dialing
  • - IE Mobile browser software
  • - T9 (Predictive Text)
  • - Music Player
  • - Streaming video
  • - Speakerphone
  • - Micro USB charge port

The HTC 5800 allows you to sync with your Outlook, receive your email via ActiveSync and view and edit MS Word and Excel documents. It also switches from portrait to landscape mode when the spring-loaded full QWERTY keyboard slides open.

This phone appears to be a good candidate for busy professionals who need internet access and the ability to communicate quickly.

HTC Worst product on the market!!

Email freezes, keep resetting it, company rep supposed to call to try to fix the problem. No call. This product just does not work. Even when it does it is not intuative. Pain in the butt, AND the battery is crap.

HORRIBLE!

I've had this phone since October 2008. I get 7 minutes of talk time out of it, then it dies. I get 15 - 45 minutes of texting (not on the full keyboard) then it dies. I do not recommend this to anyone. I can't wait to get out of my contract and to switch to a new phone.

A piece of GAAARRRBAGE

This phone constantly freezes up. Turns itself off, and is otherwise just a pain in the ass to use. NOT user friendly in the least. This phone was obviously was rushed to market. The surely knew this was a piece of shit when it was released. A roll of quarters and a payphone would be a better option.

Pro: Makes a nice paperweight Con: Shuts itself off daily. Freezes up constantly. This phone is not user friendly. Using experience: 11 months This phone was rushed to market before the bugs were worked out. Very much regret buying this phone. Can't wait till I am up for free upgrade. Looking forward to tossing it out the window.

I fed up with it

My dad gave me this 5800 when he got a phone from work, he had only used it from March 2007 to February 2008, and ever since I've had it it's been nothing but shit. It freezes and turns off, dies when it has a full battery, my alarm clock on it goes off even when it's not set (OR EVEN IF THE PHONE IS TURNED OFF!). However, the calender and agenda function are great. Thats the best part of it. I can't wait to get a new one phone though. Never going HTC again. Less

I got this phone last year in September. They replaced it two months ago because the battery kept dying.. The battery lasts about 2 hours, Verizon won't replace the battery because they say everything is discontinued. they have sent me a new phone and I am to receive it on Monday. It is a different series, model, etc. but if it works like this 5800, I will shove this phone where the sun don't shine on Verizon. Do not even take this phone if someone gives it to you. I have lost all my data twice for no reason. Verizon is "sorry you've had so much trouble". I may go back to a flip phone that makes only phone calls if the new phone is anything like this piece of garbage. Less

Con: It takes a while to turn on and off, everything is kind of small and cramped, pictures are difficult Using experience: 5 weeks Despite the cons, I ADORE this phone! My mom had this phone for 4 months before she gave it to me, but it works like a charm. I've been having trouble stopping the ringtones after they start, and it took a while to figure out how to save ringtones[from the text containing it, you assign to contact and then it's officially a ringtone] But other than the minor flaws, I LOOOVE this phone! Durable, fun, and easy, Less
