Hi Brian. Big carriers offer a prepaid plan for $25/month with unlimited calls and texts. There are cheaper plans if you don't need unlimited calls. Check out the unlimited plans offered in SK here in Cellphones.ca.

Prices are almost the same between carriers. I suggest checking out neighbors on which carriers they are using so you know beforehand which one has good coverage in the area.

Thanks for your reply. I live in BC and will be coming out to Regina to visit my brother who will be moved from the General Hosp to a long term care as he is terminal. He has only had a landline  so my sister in Moosomin is looking at getting a used cell phone and we would set up a plan(may only be for a few months unfort) but give him a connection so we can have a daily call with him.  So I'm thinking a monthly plan without a long term contract.  Much appreciated.
