Sprint has officially announced that they will be releasing their first Android offering, the HTC Hero, on October 11th. Now, if you’re wondering if we either made a typo or simply posted the wrong picture as the one below clearly doesn't look like it, well, we didn’t. This phone, for the uninformed, is actually the HTC Hero completely redesigned to suite Sprints needs.
Don't be fooled, though. While it may look very different on the outside, it’s still every bit the same on the inside as the one approved by the FCC with the exception, of course, that this one boasts of EV-DO Rev. A connectivity. The 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, 528MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB RAM/288MB ROM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS are all still there. Apart from that, it will also come with Sprint TV with live and on-demand programming, visual voice mail, quick access to Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr, and will ship with a 2GB microSD card as part of the package.
So, how much will the Sprint HTC Hero cost? Its definitely way much cheaper than their other new HTC offering, the Touch Pro2, as it will retail for just $179.99 on a 2-yr contract after a $100 mail-in rebate and $50 instant savings is applied (excluding taxes). We like the new look of the HTC Hero, but we’re certainly loving its reasonable pricing even more. With such a perfection combination of substance, style, and pricing, it looks like Sprint has a sure winner on their hands.
