Sony Ericsson may have been the first to announce a 12.1-megapixel camera with their Idou (now renamed as the Satio), but Samsung is determined to be the first to release one in the market.

Called the Samsung Pixon 12 (M8910), this 3.1-inch AMOLED display equipped touchscreen mobile phone packs a 12-megapixel camera and is complemented with imaging features such as touch auto-focus with tracking, smart auto mode for auto adjustment of settings depending on prevailing conditions, a 28-mm wide angle lens, and Xenon and power LED flash. It also boasts of WiFi, Bluetooth, quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA 900/2100MHz connectivity as well as an FM radio with RDS support, and GPS. Its internal memory is only rated to be just 150MB but this is where the microSD card slot will come in handy.

Best of all, it’s expected to hit the European market sometime later this month with other regions to follow in August. Hopefully, the US and Canada will be among those lucky regions scheduled to get their Samsung Pixon 12 in August. Now, what say you Sony Ericsson? Will you still wait for Q4 to release your Satio or do you feel a little bit more pressured now to make it available at a much earlier date?
