The new 3G iPhone has sold 300,000 more US units this past weekend compared to the original's opening weekend sales of 2007.

Even Rogers Wireless, Canada's largest wireless carrier, sold out the tens of thousands of units during the same period, making it the single best sales weekend in the carrier's history.

The sales numbers are even more impressive when you consider that last year's iPhone launch was in the United States only. While it's true that this time Apple launched in a total of about 20 countries, sales like these for a single weekend are impressive by anyone's standards.

For those in Canada who were not able to get an iPhone, no worries. Rogers expects more inventory by the 15th.

Looks like the iPhone has gone 3G, and platinum!
