Decent, but with definite drawbacks

I've had my LG Gossip for almost 4 years now, and in that time established quite the love/hate relationship with it. I enjoyed that you could switch between applications (texts, memos, etc) but soon discovered that while doing so, occasionally the phone wouldn't let me reply to text messages because I had "exceeded the number of applications that could be open", even if it was only Messaging and another simple application.
I'm not on a prepaid plan, it's a contract and I pay for my use monthly. The phone can't use wi-fi and sends Fido (if thats your provider) sends a warning text if you try to use the internet. Up to you to decide if that's important or not.
What is pretty significant is the performance of the phone. It varies, but usually it's SUPER slow and lags for an unfortunate amount of time. For instance, closing a program by pressing the 'end call' button - it can take up to 10 seconds to display the main screen.
Another thing that annoys me is that when I have my messages set to 'threaded view' the hone lags even more. It can take 15-25 seconds to open a message, and when I open the general inbox it throws up a 'waiting...' notification and a bar scrolls across the screen for up to 20 seconds, depending on how many messages you have 9not unread - just generally). In terms of lagging, it's also annoying when the phone lags so that you think you haven't pressed the button, so you press it again - and when it eventually responds, it does so as though you've pressed it twice (for example - when pressing 'view' after receiving a new text message and waiting for several seconds, I would press 'view' (the 'ok' button) again. When the text finally popped up, the phone would respond as though I had immediately pressed 'reply' as well (also the 'ok' button).
What I haven't seen other people comment on here is that my buttons are unreliable in their response. For a long period of time my 'i' button wouldn't work (I would press it multiple times but no i would show up in the message I was typing.) So that was annoying. The down arrow is glitchy as well.
I haven't tried putting music on my Gossip, but as the MP3 player doesn't function with other uses of the phone (can't listen to music and write a note or text, for example), I don't see the use in trying.
I have also had issues with it randomly calling people, but I discovered that this only happens when a message is open and the green phone button (on the far left) is pushed. Hard to prevent except by exiting out of the message.
There was one mysterious month when my phone would not receive any text messages, but perhaps this was simply my provider.
When receiving picture messages (MMS), the phone shows that they are coming in but takes a loooong time to do so. Occasionally I will click on the message but only see a written record of its information, and will have to 'retrieve' the message, which takes longer still. The whole process can last up to several hours.
The battery is decent - nothing outstanding, but will last several days with moderate usage. The bars of the battery are NOT equal though - the first lasts for about 3 -4 days, and the last two bars will only limp you through one day.
I have never taken my phone in for repairs - not to say it hasn't merited needing repair.
All in all, despite its annoyances, it does technically still function as a phone. It's lasted me 4 years and is pretty tough in terms of rough handling. If you're looking for anything fancy, it's definitely not for you, but if you're more the kind of person who uses it to call some people, take a few unimportant photos and text a couple friends, go ahead. The price seems right, at least. Less
