After almost a year since news broke out that Dell was entering the mobile phone business, Dell has finally announced their first handset offering, the Mini 3i. Well, actually it was Chinese carrier China Mobile, not Dell, who officially announced the handset which will be released in the Asian country at a later date.

The Dell Mini 3i is a compact full-touchscreen handset that comes equipped with a 3.5-inch 640x360 LCD 262K color display, 3-megapixel autofocus camera with flash and 30fps video recording capabilities, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR support, A-GPS, Microsoft Exchange support, and microSD card slot for additional storage. It runs on the Ophone OMS platform which is custom mobile operating system based on the Android. The big caveat here, aside from the mediocre 262K color display, is that it lacks WiFi and 3G connectivity. We can probably live with just one of the two missing, but both not available? Ouch.

Anyway, from the looks of it, it doesn’t appear that the Dell Mini 3i will be made available outside China anytime soon. Hopefully, if it does manage to venture outside the Asian region, it will be a much better spec’d Dell smartphone as opposed to this one.
