On March 17, Apple will unveil a preview of the upcoming iPhone 3.0 firmware, and while we’re still not quite sure what this new iteration will feature, rumor has it that it will come with multitasking, MMS, push notifications, and everyone’s dream feature, cut/paste.

As a matter of fact, Digg’s Kevin Rose has gone on the record saying that cut/paste functionality is indeed part of the iPhone 3.0 firmware. However, he doesn’t think that background app support will be on the agenda. It’s a real bummer to hear that, but hey, this isn’t official by any means and Kevin could be wrong on this one.

Anyway, mark March 17th on your calendars, the day when all the rumors will be either confirmed or denied. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that all the features we’ve been so patiently waiting for to become available on the iPhone will finally be included in their latest firmware release.
