Amidst growing rumors that the XPERIA X1 wasn’t going to make it this year, Sony Ericsson assured us today that it will be releasing the X1 before the year ends and in time for Christmas. When specifically is still yet to be known. It could be October or even December 24 for all we know, but it’s definitely on track for a final quarter debut. Merran Wrigley, Sony Ericsson spokeswomen, was quoted as saying:

There is absolutely no delay. The product is on track. We have said it will roll out in Q4 and we are on target to do that.

One can’t help but have doubts primarily due to the long wait since it was announced. Back then, it was projected that it would be available in the 2nd half of 2008. No one ever said that it would be towards the end of the 2nd half. Well, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, but one things almost guaranteed at this point - the XPERIA X1, similar to the Nokia N96, has lost whatever edge it had in the market as a result of the delayed release, and it sure won't help the faltering position of the company.
