With the Motorola Cliq now official and ready for pre-order on T-Mobile, I’d say now is just the right time for an update on Motorola’s other Android offering, the Motorola Sholes.

Verizon Motorola Droid

Confirming previous reports, this upcoming QWERTY-equipped Android slider from Motorola will indeed be headed for Verizon albeit launching with a different name. Word is that it will be released as the Motorola Droid, and apart from the previously reported specs, you can now also add a 500MHz ARM Cortex processor and facial recognition to its feature set. MotoBlur, unfortunately, won’t be part of the package. Instead, a new custom Motorola interface will be introduced with the Droid to possibly rival HTC's Sense UI. There's still word yet on when it will be released, but our guess is the Droid will be officially announced by Verizon before 2009 comes to a close.

On a similar note, a QWERTY-less twin of the Droid was also reported to be in the works though we’re still pretty clueless as to what its specs will be. It was, however, revealed that it's planned for a 2010 debut so this is something worth looking forward to next year.
