What the Critics Are Saying...

Digital Trends

The Mi Mix 3 is an excellent smartphone, with a striking design, a good camera, and plenty of power. Except you shouldn’t buy it. The reason isn’t to do with the phone, which has very few downsides, but everything to do with the other phones you can buy now or in the very near future.

The Mi Mix 3 is absolutely gorgeous and its sliding mechanism makes a satisfying click. The camera takes great shots as well and battery life is fantastic. The phone can be a fingerprint magnet, it's not waterproof and the front cameras don't do secure 3D face unlocking.

For a relatively affordable price (at least in smartphone terms), you get a stylish, fast, and capable handset that's going to last you for years to come. We certainly wouldn't worry about camera quality, or performance, or battery life, or the screen if you're picking up this phone – they're all very good. The trade-offs are in more minor areas, like a lack of waterproofing, and a few software niggles that might not be to your liking.

However, the phone is slippy to grip, and I worry that the camera area might get dusty over time or be a point of entry for moisture. I'm getting used to the comeback that IR blasters are making in handsets at the moment and would like to have seen one here, but the bundled wireless charger is a nice touch.

Xiaomi has created the most compelling phone in their lineup, with an incredible price that provides the absolute best value at this price range, and a design that’s worthy of the Mi MIX name. The Mi MIX 3 appears to complete the projected vision of the original Mi MIX from 2 years ago, creating a bezel-less experience without sacrificing user experience in any meaningful way. With the best version of MIUI yet, a sleek and rich experience that translates across all facets of the phone, and the most stellar camera Xiaomi has ever put on a phone, the Mi MIX 3 is among the single best affordably-priced flagship phones to buy at this time in early 2019.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is the phone to buy if you like to watch movies and TV episodes on your way to work. Its screen slider gets rid of the annoyances of notches and punch hole displays, letting you watch cinematic odysseys as intended: on a 6.4in screen. OK, so phones aren’t ideal for movie-watching, but you won’t find much better at the price. It also has the power, storage and versatile cameras needed to let the Mi Mix 3 compete with more expensive phones. And it also gets wireless charging, missing from the OnePlus and Honor rivals.
