Apple submitted court filings seeking to add the recently released Samsung Galaxy S4 to a US patent lawsuit. Apple claims that after analyzing the three Galaxy S4 units it bought from Sprint, Verizon and AT&T, it found the same infringing features that it found on the other phones named in the lawsuit. Two of the five patents identified cover technologies for Siri, the virtual personal assistant in iPhones. Apple claims that the Galaxy S4 and the Google Now search app incorporated to the device violate U.S. Patent 8,086,604, and U.S. Patent 6,846,959 relating to a "universal interface for retrieval of information in a computer system."
What Else You Need To Know
- The three other patents identified by Apple are a patent for "performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data," one for "asynchronous data synchronization amongst devices," and one for autofill in text fields based on past inputs.
- Trial is expected to begin in early 2014 before Judge Lucy Koh in California.
