Google I/O 2013: Now New Devices, Just Small Android Improvements
CoolSmartPhone

The Google I/O 2013 event is already underway but Google didn't unveil the X-phone, a new Nexus 7, new Nexus 5, or any new device. Google did unveil a Samsung Galaxy S4 'Google Edition' -- a pure version of the flagship device that will be available for SIM-free purchase in June. Google also unveiled a new interface and a ton of new features to the Google Maps app for Android and iOS. In addition, Google unveiled elements to Google Play Services; announced Android Studio, a brand new IDE built just for Android; and several improvements to Google music. Google CEO Larry Page, who's suffering from a vocal-cord problem, made a surprise appearance at Wednesday's Google I/O.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Improvements to Google music include a complete redesign of the mobile and web app, Listen now, recommendations, radio, and the announcement of a paid streaming service.
  • Google didn't unveil a new version of Android (either 4.2.3 or 5.0).
