I got this phone on a 3yr contract as a christmas gift Worst christmas gift ever! I had serious battery problems, they sent it away and gave me a new phone (didnt even think to give me back my original SIM card. Doesnt get service anywhere, ex// I can be in the middle of a large city in an open area and will have only one MAYBE two bars (perhaps not the phones fault) but with a giant antenna you would think it would be better. The two way capability thing is useless and to this day I still dont care to use it. The camera quality is horrible. There is NO alarm clock, just a really basic calendar. I have even tried making an event with a sound reminder (does not work) had to resort to using the vibrate mode all the time because if I miss a call it constantly beeps every 10 seconds (not good when your phone is near you but you cant get to it to turn it off) If someone knows how to turn this featre off -- please tell me!! I will say one good thing... you could throw this thing off of a 30 storey building and it will be just fine! If you are looking for a more useful phone - this is not for you. It is not user friendly, does not have a lot of options. As simply a MIKE phone perhaps it is ok. Less

Decent phone

After switching to Telus, I bought this model on a 3-year contract. Its been six months, and so far its been a decent phone (compared to what I've heard from the i560). I have, on occaision, had my phone reboot itself for no reason, but other than that, it's been good to me. I couldn't tell you how good or bad the battery life is as I don't pay too much attention to that. Yes, the phone does not take the greatest pictures, but it was advertised as a less than a megapixel when I bought it. There are better Mike phones that take mini-sd cards and better pictures. So, if you are looking for a good camera phone, this is not the best, I can make out what I take pictures of, but that's about it. Less

I originally bought this phone for the Two-Way communications capability, but decided to upgrade to the i857 because of its camera feature - only to find out later that the image quality is so poor that when I review my pix I can barely tell what I took a picture of! In addition, the phone inadvertently turns itself off occasionally. When I brought it back to my Telus retailer for that problem, they said that Motorola would not honor a warranty claim because there was a dent on the inside of the phone- in a place where the guy had to use a special screw driver to get at! I don't see how that could possible be my fault since I never took any tools to this thing, but they blamed me. Then my screen started failing. Half of the time it doesn't work when I open the phone - just really dim graphics or no picture at all. Tough to use my contacts list that way. The battery life has been consistent since the beginning, giving one day (24 hrs) if I get two or three calls up to two days if I don't use it at all - My wife's Sony will go 4 days with calls and 7 without. In all, of the 15 or so phones I've owned in the past 15 years - from Audiovox, Motorola, Nokia or Sony, (includes my wife's phones), the Motorola i857 is probably the worst quality of them all, and it has taken me only 90 days to figure this out. With 32 months left on my contract, I'm forced to buy another phone - ridiculous! Less
