High-tech dual-screen wizardry, compact form factor

from MobileBurn

While the name Venus will suggest a ladies phone to many people, I think that the VX8800 Venus is suitable for both men and women. Men will appreciate the clean lines, solid feel, and high-tech dual-screen wizardry. Women will like its compact form factor, and how pretty the user interface and touchscreen are when compared with other phones. I think it is a win for both groups.

Personally, I really like the Venus. If not for the recently launched VX10000 Voyager, I would have probably thought the Venus to be the most interesting phone in Verizon's handset stable. It is stylish an... Full review

As a music phone, the Venus is kinda awesome

from Wired

Hey there's something you don't see on a cell phone every day: a split screen. Well sort of. Technically, LG's Venus handset has two screens: a 2-inch, 320 x 240-pixel LCD on the top half and a 1.5-inch, 176 x 240-pixel touchscreen anchoring the bottom half. The touchscreen contains almost all of the phone's navigational controls and shortcuts to several applications. When you press a virtual key, you get a mild vibration feedback indicating your selection went through. Touch-sensitive controls are generally a nice idea, but they aren't always responsive on the Venus. On multiple occasions,... Full review

AWFUL!

Within two months of owning this phone, it started acting up. It shust off on its own, and the battery drains regardless of if you are using it or not. It freezes consistantly and will often close text messages while in the middle of typing a text message

I would not suggest this phone to anyone.....I have had the phone for only 6 months I have had to send it away twice and still it is not working properly. The phone will freeze at random, make its own text messages and not allow me to delete them, has horrible battery life and decides at random that it wants to over-heat and shut off and melt its own software. After sending it away the first time I was sent back a "new" one only for it to have the same problems and more then by sending it away the second time I was told that there was apparently "nothing wrong with it" and that it " is up to par" I cant find anything about what this phone is doing to be "up to par" and I wouldnt suggest it to anyone. I wouldn't recommend this phone fto anyone who wants little hassle Less

HORRIBLE PHONE!

Now its almost the end on 2009 and a few things are dinged up but that my fault from basic wear and tear. PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS... you cant give a phone a bad review if you drop it and crack your screen and then blame the phone. IDIOTS! how ever any one takes care of their phone.... is how long it will last & look good. As far as the technical stuff... theirs a "Bad" phone out of so many. i think LG's ratio is for every 200 phones one is a little funny. Ive never had any issues with mine. The touch screen may have been a bit slow... but this was kinda of a new deal. The newer phones you can calibrate them and stuff. So over all i love my phone and people are idiots :) Less

I've owned this phone for about a year and a half and while it serves its purpose as a basic phone, it is lacking in many ways. Within the first 60 days almost all of the 'chrome' around the edge flaked off and slowly the screen developed a haze from small scratches. The touch-screen has become less and less responsive, and the calibration is poor, almost always requiring a press 'above' and slightly to the right to get the selected item to respond. The mic does ok in low-to-medium noise environments, but is particularly susceptible to wind noise. The operating system lags constantly and gets worse after the camera has been used several times. The battery life has degraded rapidly, and the phone now only lasts a little over 30h on standby (down from over a week when I first bought it), with even having made only a few calls and texts, I have to charge the phone each night or it will not last into the following day. I'm also disappointed by the power-off when battery is low, I'm of the feeling that when the battery is low, the device should do everything possible to conserve energy and keep the phone working as long as possible, once the device is 'dead' it will still have enough power to complete a full power-on, and within 5-10 secs decide it needs to power-off again; to me this is a design flaw, and at last resort there should be an option to override the shutdown if I need to make an emergency call or text. The phone should go dead from real lack of power before it decides whatever threshold has been met requiring a shutdown. The low-battery alerting also causes the battery to die that much sooner, the screen lights up and an audible/vibration notification 'beep' happens every 30 seconds once the phone is low on power. I'm sure it would last 2-3 times as long if it didn't constantly wake-up to pester the user, at least give me the option to 'snooze' the alerts, acknowledging the battery state and stopping the device from waking itself right out of juice. I can't wait to get rid of this phone and get a smartphone. Less

CONS: The camera can be blurry at times, the touch screen is slow and somtimes lags a bit, sliding the phone scraches the # buttons, and when you have to many pictures on your phone it freezes the touch screen, which can be pretty annoying Less
