MobileBurn

A very solid all-around performer

from MobileBurn

While the LG VX8600 for Verizon is not an all-around stunner, it is, with some minor exceptions, a very solid all-around performer. It has good looks (if kept clean), a comfortable shape, and solid phone and multimedia performance.

Verizon might offer some handsets that are more flashy, more trendy, or more high tech, but most of them all have at least one or two real problems that would cause some users real concern. Apart from perhaps the keypad, the VX8600 doesn't really seem to be like that. It does what it is supposed to do with class and capability. When considered against... Full review

Nothing to hate.. but not a phone to recommend.

I'm still using this phone because of my 3 year contract with Telus but so far, there's nothing I absolutely hate. I have about two months left until my contract ends and I don't have a scratch or anything on it.. Pros: - It looks really nice compared to other flip phones - It's slim - The keys are all easy to press - The MP3 player's nice - You can check the time, battery life, set a wallpaper, read text messages, and you have the MP3 player functions without having to flip the screen - I got a free clear case with the phone and even without it, the phone kept intact even after a couple drops Cons: - Nothing really, just the charger isn't that nice. After numerous times of plugging in the charger to the phone whenever it needed charging, the charger kind of fell apart and it became useless. Thankfully, my sister had the same phone so I could use the charger she had. - My sister's phone (this same one) also had a problem where it wouldn't charge! Now she has to put her battery pack into my phone to be able to charge it. Overall, nothing to complain about but I still, would not recommend this phone to anyone simply because there are way better ones in the world and there always will be. 10/10 phone. Less

Durable... but typical LG crap.

Ive had the phone since January 2008. Here are my observations: Pros: Can read texts, use the camera and media player without opening the phone. (More on this in a bit) Slim Good battery life Durable Cons: Paint is starting to chip off. The media player can turn on in your pocket. This happens frequently, as holding down on the play/pause button starts the media player. this is (too) easy to do though. No noticable features. The screen is starting to wear out. The middle of the screen is darker than the outsides. The screen has strange scratches down the sides. Less

i've had this phone for a little over 2 years and at first it was great. the last 3-4 months however are anything but. it is constantly searching for service, and leaving and entering the service area, even when im downtown. this also drastically reduces the battery life. i've had problems lately in both sending and receiveing text messages, and am not able to maintain a signal long enough to complete a phone call. i would have loved to finish my 3 yr contract with this phone, but its not possible. Considering that the phone was $0 at telus, I never had high expectations for it. I'm not one for fancy phone gadgets, so after having the chocolate flip for three years, it served its purpose well in the basic uses of calling and texting people. What I liked about the phone was that it had a great mp3 function and awesome reception. I never had issues using the phone going through tunnels, elevators or concrete stairwells. There were times where the phone would shut off on me if I flipped it open a little too hard; certain keys also would not work at times; battery life was quite short. However that's considered quite minor, considering all the other crap it's been through. I don't know how many times I dropped the phone, whether it was down the stairs or on concrete - however it managed to survive every fall, with only a few scratches. Finally the phone got beheaded after it was ran over with a shopping cart one day. Although the phone snapped in half, it still kind of functions even though its not usable in any way. I didn't love the phone, nor did I hate it. I personally wouldn't spend the money and buy another LG chocolate...and I wouldn't recommend the LG Chocolates to other people. Aesthetically the Chocolates are nice looking phones but that's about it. Unless you are a very basic cell phone user, I would say definitely look around for other phone makes and models. Less

Screen is starting to go after a couple years

I have had this phone for almost 3 years and it has been great until recently. The screen is going all wonky. Lines on the screen when I try to use the camera. The screen freezes up if I am going something with my phone and I get a message. Sometimes when I open it my screen looks all backwards. The paint is also kind of chipping on the back. I love everything else about it though. I am not disappointed at all, it has lasted my whole contract so I am happy with that. Less

The cons outweigh the pros

I was really excited when I got this phone, but I soon became very disappointed. It's nice to look at, and I love the size of the screen and buttons, but there are so many little things that make it not worth it. Answer option - this is the one that bothers me the most. There is no option to only answer the phone when you push "send," so if you're texting and someone calls you, it automatically picks up the phone. Most of the time you're not even aware you're on a call, bceause the text message is still open. Battery life - I don't know if it's because I dropped it off a roller coaster when I had only had it for a few months, but the battery life is sporadic at best. Sometimes it will last for two or three days, but for the most part it will last for 12 hours TOPS and give me about a 3 second warning when it's about to die. Also, the "low battery" warning keeps popping up, which runs the battery even lower. Outside screen - I never use the outside screen, except to check the time. When I push any button to light up the screen, I can't see the time because of the "keys locked" warning that comes up. It's really annoying. T9 predictive text - this might not be a dealbreaker for most people, but I text a lot. With other phones, the words you use the most are the ones that come up first when you text. With the chocolate, I have to cycle through so many words to get to the ones I use most. Very annoying. I would not recommend this phone. LG and Motorola are both iffy brands. I would say go with a Samsung. My favorite phone I've ever had was a Samsung Gleam. Less

most fragile

I've had a phone that lasted me 4 years, and it is still alive actually. But this phone i had for a year and a half, and actually snaped in 2! dropped maybe 3 times.

Battery Dies!

Had this phone for a little over 2 years and now I can't use it unless it is plugged in. It can be fully charged and I can use it right after it is carged for maybe 3 minutes and then it dies, so I need to keep it plugged in. I have a three year contract and a phone that doesn't work!

Lasting alright, but not a favorite

I've had this phone for over 1 1/2 years and I've been quite content with it, with a few exceptions. I normally take good care of my phones but the black laquer has been peeling off, particularely off the back. The front screen scratches VERY easily! Still, it's sleek, it's slim, loud speakers and good camera. Video recordings could have improved audio. As for reception, to all of you that are not aware, yes the phone DOES make a big difference in the reception you get. I'm not overwhelmed with this one, I lose calls and get failed texts, even in the city. My Chocolate has been a dear friend, but I would probably not purchase it again.. Less
