The "1-Minute" Review

What's good

  • Very affordable
  • Covers basic features well

What's bad

  • Poor display quality
  • Awful camera performance

The Alcatel One Touch Fierce is the kind of phone for people who would describe themselves as budget-conscious. Phone Scoop's Eric M. Zeman says so himself in his full review, further explaining that despite the phone's weaknesses, it's still able to cover most of the basics with aplomb.

Unfortunately where it falls, it falls hard. PhoneArena criticized its screen which offered poor viewing angles, as well as its built-in camera that only seemed to produce "dull and lifeless" pictures. Lynn La from Cnet echoed the sentiment, even going so far as to say that it simply isn't a worthwhile purchase.

One positive all reviewers could seem to agree on was the price, which in comparison to other phones in this range, looks good.

With all that said, the consensus seems to be this: if you value performance first and foremost in your phone, you may never be able to forgive yourself for going with the One Touch Fierce. But if you don't care so much about specs and would rather save some money by purchasing a basic model that is able to get a job done, then this might be an ok pick.

What the Critics Are Saying...

Phone Scoop

Alcatel did an admirable job with the OneTouch Fierce. It offers a lot of value at just $150 when purchased outright. If you choose T-Mobile's payment plan, you'll fork over just $30 at the register and add only $5 to your monthly bill. For that, you get a solid device that is well made, looks good,...

The Alcatel ONE TOUCH Fierce may not be our personal favorite. In fact, it may not be one that we would even consider purchasing. Still, we do see some value. Even though the Alcatel One Touch Fierce has an attractive price point of $164, and is a moderately attractive smartphone, we just can’t get past the issues that we had with the device. Even though the display is good size at 4.5", the consistent blue-hue and poor viewing angels makes us not e...

Even if you're on a tight budget, you should skip Alcatel's One Touch Fierce in favor of a better prepaid phone.

The biggest detractors are the screen, which is too blue, and the slow performance across the board thanks to the processor. The processor is the bigger of the two issues. Also, the camera is rather crummy.

If you're not picky about the screen, don't need blazing fast performance, and couldn't give a hoot about quality imaging, there's lots to like. The Fierce performed well on T-Mobile's network and provided excellent call quality through the earpiece. It runs an almost-stock version of Android 4.2, and comes with a good selection of messaging, media, and other apps.

Most $150 phones are lacking something. Despite the Fierce's weaknesses, it covers the smartphone basics with aplomb.

Even though the Alcatel One Touch Fierce has an attractive price point of $164, and is a moderately attractive smartphone, we just can’t get past the issues that we had with the device. Even though the display is good size at 4.5", the consistent blue-hue and poor viewing angels makes us not even want to look at it. The 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor is sluggish and feels like it belongs in a device from several years ago, while the 5MP camera lacks auto-focus, and pictures may look dull and lifeless. To top that off, call quality isn’t that great, and the rattling vibration in the earpiece speaker makes you want to end the call as quickly as possible.

Cheap, but not worthwhile

from Cnet

While you may be tempted by the One Touch Fierce's price, satisfying 4G speeds, and reliable call quality, I still don't recommend this device. Especially considering its laggy processing performance, unimpressive camera, and poor touchscreen.

Not impressed

I'm not expecting A top notch phone. The price is great, especially for its functionality. Calls are decent and it surfs the web well enough. My problem with this phone is the layout, a simple task like adding a contact is so frustrating I want to break this phone.
