About Primus

What Primus was

Primus Wireless was a monthly cell phone service sold under the Primus name and run by Cityfone, a Rogers-owned company, on the Rogers network. It sat alongside Cityfone’s other brands, SimplyConnect and Zoomer Wireless. The Primus name itself belongs to Primus Canada, a separate company that sells home internet and home phone, and that business is still running.

What happened

Primus no longer sells cell phone plans, and the old wireless.primus.ca address now leads to Virgin Plus, a Bell brand. Primus Canada was bought by Distributel in 2021, and Bell bought Distributel in 2022. There’s no public notice that explains when Primus Wireless ended or where its customers went. Cityfone’s other brands closed on December 31, 2024.

Hi Grindale, I just emailed Primus and this is what I got in reply:Thank you for your recent request for information regarding Primus Canada's Wireless Telephone services. We are pleased that you are considering this service and to provide you with the requested information.1) Yes, we do offer SIM cards for the one time cost of $25.00 2) We do not provide service to blackberrys at this time as we do not support them yet. I'm so sorry about that! If you had any other phone (no iPhones), we can help you!
