Who Lucky Mobile is
Lucky Mobile is owned by Bell and sells prepaid plans only. Bell started it as its low-cost brand, and the logo now says “by Bell”. There is no credit check and no contract. You can sign up online with an eSIM, or buy a SIM card at thousands of stores across Canada, including Best Buy, Staples and Dollarama, and activate it yourself. Most customers bring their own unlocked phone.
Network and coverage
Lucky runs on Bell’s network, so it reaches the same places as Bell’s 4G LTE signal. Its plans run at 4G LTE speeds rather than 5G, though a 5G phone works fine on them. Each plan has a set amount of fast data, and once you use it your speed drops sharply for the rest of the month. Lucky has no US or international roaming, so its service doesn’t work outside Canada.
How pricing works
Lucky keeps a short ladder of prepaid plans that differ mainly in data, and each one includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting. You pay before each month starts, and taxes are added on top. If you sign up for Auto Top-Up, which charges your card or bank account automatically, most plans come with extra data every month. Lucky also adds bonus data the longer you stay. It doesn’t offer phone financing.
Who it suits
Lucky suits people who want Bell’s network at a prepaid price, with no credit check, and who already own an unlocked phone. It’s also simple to leave, since you just stop paying. It suits you less if you want 5G speeds, need your phone to work when you travel outside Canada, or want to pay off a new phone month by month. The other prepaid brands on this page are worth a look before you choose.
