The HTC Dash 3G is a fine update to the original Dash, adding 3G speeds, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera and smooth trackball navigation control.
The Dash is a straight-forward GSM, candy bar style, full QWERTY phone which, while similar to the Q and Blackjack in some ways, manages to add its own HTC splash.
For example, the trackball navigation streamlines the central navigation array, reducing it to a simple trackball, rather than a center button surrounded by other buttons and, well, you know how that goes.
The point is, HTC cut to the chase and built a device that forces every key to be fully justified. The result is an arguably smoother, minimalist fascia, meant to get you where you want to go without having to stop and think of the path required. Also, the keys are large and sure-footed enough for fast texters, and the black keys with red highlights are classy, different and visually helpful.
Running on Windows Mobile 6.1, combined with a hearty 528MHz Qualcomm processor, you won’t be disappointed by any lack of speed or productivity. In fact, matching the appropriate processor with an OS that properly compliments the device is nearly an art form which some companies miss, and which reveals itself in almost everything you do with this phone.
Finish off with a respectable and attractive 2.4 inch, 320 x 240 pixel resolution display and you have a compact, competent phone that will get the job done without making you squint.
The updated HTC Dash 3G is rated at 5 hours of talk time and up to 480 hours of standby time. Please keep in mind that personal use greatly affects these ratings.
Many people like the candy bar form factor, and if that describes you, take a good look at this thoughtful offering from HTC.
It gets the job done and more.
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Joni Blecher, PhoneDogThe HTC Dash 3G is a worthy upgrade to the Dash, even though they both use the same Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. The new model has quite a few enhancements including 3G connectivity, an easy-to-use home screen, a trackball, a 2-megapixel camera, and an e-mail set up tool that’s so easy to use anyone...
- Bonnie Cha, CNETOverall, it's a really nice upgrade for current Dash owners and any T-Mobile customers looking for a fast messaging smartphone.
