Why is the text message count wrong on my ZTE phone?

Hmm.. Go to Settings > Apps > look for Messages > tap Clear data. Also, make sure it's pertaining to a new text. I've had a similar experience looking for a new text but funny cause it's just an unsent message and I didn't read the notification.
