This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a mobile phone boasting of a transparent interactive panel. We’ve seen the LG GD900 earlier this year, and now, we’ve got the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness to add to the list.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness

This new XPERIA phone was actually announced earlier this month, but with so many new stories to cover, it’s hard to keep track of each and every one of them. Anyway, back to the XPERIA Pureness. Even though this phone is debuting under the XPERIA brand, make no mistake about it, this is not your typical XPERIA phone. There’s no QWERTY keypad or touchscreen on this baby, but it does come with an uber cool transparent albeit monochromatic display. Details about its other specs are pretty scarce at the moment, but from what we hear, it's not that impressive.

Here's a promotional video of the XPERIA Pureness sans any audio to accompany it:

It's expected to be launched sometime in November with, get this, a retail price of £530 or roughly $874. It’s undeniably pricey, but apparently, this is all part of the plan. As Sony Ericsson views this device as ‘an iconic niche product’, they’re not exactly targeting the mass market with this phone. It’s also reported that it will be made available through non-carrier retail channels such as artsy Design Museum shops and high-end shops such as Selfridges who is also currently selling another expensive, design-centric mobile phone, the Motorola Aura.

We’re not sure how the XPERIA Pureness will help Sony Ericsson out in their present predicament, but if it's going against the grain and everyone's expectation is what they want to achieve, they done just that with the Pureness.
