In an attempt to further educate teenagers on the value and importance of practicing safe sex, the US National Institute of Health will be testing the effectiveness of short videos distributed via mobile phones as a new tool in their campaign.

Leading this new medium for information dissemination is Professor Rachel Jones. She is a professor at the Rutgers College of Nursing and has devoted her career in reducing the number of young urban black and Latina women inflicted by HIV and AIDS. A $2 million grant has been given to her to test out this new campaign which might prove to be more effective than the usual pamphlets and outdated safe sex videos shown in schools.

More importantly, with mobile phones becoming a necessity for teens these days, it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll be able to get their message across to their target audience wherever they maybe. Of course, there’s no telling yet this early how successful this new campaign will be, but considering that they'll be using mediums such as mobile phones and videos that are high on a teenager's priority list as tools, it’s hard not to see the upside of this new approach.
