The latest from the rumor mill is that Acer is will officially join the mobile phone biz in 2009. Based on the report, JT Wang, the company chairman, mentioned a possible Q2 2009 launch and lays the blame on the delay on ongoing negotiations with carriers. To be quite honest, we’re not buying the lame excuse and we think there’s much more to the delay than meets the eyes. Likewise, their rumored smartphone offering is already old news with no clear indication of its status and progress. Anyway, if and when they do get their act together and release their first mobile phone, Acer will join the likes of HP and Asus, both of whom are known for their contributions in the PC industry and have likewise ventured into the mobile phone biz as well.
