Just as we had reported earlier, Fido now has a new look and a whole new set of rate plans designed to make itself more accessible to those who are watching their budgets.
System access fees are out the door and in are low-priced $15/month ‘all-in’ plans. There are also unlimited text plans available that start off at $25/month. Current Fido subscribers need not worry as they may opt to continue with their existing plans.
As for the handset line-up, they’ve got a decent selection of phones, almost all of which are basic units and free on a 2-yr plan. If you fancy something a bit higher-end, Fido is still offering the Samsung Jack and the 3G iPhone. Overall, it’s a good mix of devices that should appeal to a wide range of customers. While not as diverse as what the other discount carriers in Canada are offering, the selection is; for the time being, large.
Will the new strategy pay off for you the consumer and ultimately for Fido? Only time will tell.

Fido just changed our plan after we requested to keep our old one. Although our old plan “cost” more at $26 a month, we had a $10 bundle discount (from before they were Rogers) and the system access fee was $2.70, as well we received two features free. End cost $21.41 with taxes..
The new bill arrived today $25.00 plan with a $5.00 plan credit and a new system access fee of $6.95 and no extra features, end cost $33.24 (pro-rated not even a full month). So add two features at $6 each and now I have a bill that is over $45 so lets say more than twice as much. Lets watch those savings add up kids!
where do you live?
I’m most likely the longest Fido ( Microcell) customer since 1996 and I have never ever seen a system fee of 2.70 it has allways been 6.95 and that has been with all cell companies in Canada,
Telus, Clarnet (remember them?) Bell and Rogers.
Also Fido never ever forced me to change my planes, for crying out loud I have a $10 plan with no access fee (the only one, even telus offered one like that one once) on one of my numbers and the 20/ 200 on the other on. I also ordered today an Iphone and did not have to change my plans,I only had to agree to stay with them another 3 years.
I would not go with anyone else anyways ever. GSM is the only way to go because unlike bell and telus your Phone will work in another 120 countries. And it will work soon as you get off that air plane as it did for me in London, Munich, and Varadero or as soon as I crossed the borders to the US, Croatia,Austria,Italy, switzerland,France, Slovenia,
Most problems with the cellphone providers are created by the customers them self,I never had a problem.
