HP is going to give it another go in the mobile phone industry as they’ve unveiled two new iPAQ Messenger handsets for consumers set to go on sale in November.
The first one is the HP iPAQ Data Messenger which comes with a 2.8-inch 320x420 pixel touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera with LED flash, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G/HSDPA connectivity, and a slide-out QWERT keyboard. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and has 128MB SDRAM for applications, 256MB flash ROM and microSD card slot for more storage options.
The HP iPAQ Voice Messenger, on the other hand, looks to be more like your typical phone. It sports almost every feature found in the Data Messenger, but offers it in a candybar form factor minus the large touchscreen and bigger QWERTY keypad.
The HP iPAQ Voice Messenger is expected to cost $570 once it becomes available mid-November. Meanwhile, the HP iPAQ Data Messenger will cost a bit more at $680 and is expected to arrive toward the end of the same month.
While I really can’t find anything wrong with both iPAQ Messenger phones based on what has been made known so far, the lack of something new to offer and their relatively high price could be a huge turn-off for potential buyers. However, if it performs better than most phones in its category, then maybe HP has a chance at making their mark in the mobile phone industry with their new iPAQ Messenger phones.
