Rogers has announced plans for the iPhone 3G in Canada. The plans range from $60 to $115 but none of them offer unlimited data. This comes as a surprise to many outside Canada. Canadians will not be surprised but I’m curious to see how Canadians will react to the rather “strange” pricing scheme of Rogers (and FIDO) for the iPhone. One consolation is unlimited use of WiFi i all Rogers and FIDO hotspots, which I’ve heard are ubiquitous enough in major Canadian cities.

Screwed again by Rogers. The $60 plan includes a voice component that would cost no more than $20 by itself, making that 400 MB of data cost $40. That’s $100/GB. Meanwhile, AT&T provides unlimited data for $30, but let’s call it limited to 6 GB. That’s $5/GB. The Canadian price is 20 times higher!
Rogers also lies to you about what you can do with that 400 MB. Sure, I can send 200,000 text messages. But in reality, people are going to want to use that lovely Safari browser to watch videos. Your 400 MB will last you about 2 hours on youtube.com, or 4 minutes per day.
