Canada will be among the lucky 22 countries that will get shipments of the 3G iPhone on July 11. The new iPhone was announced today by Steve Jobs. It will have 3G connectivity, GPS and A-GPS and, of course, the iPhone 2.0 software will come free. The lucky 22 territories are:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US.
The new iPhone will sell for $199 for the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB. In Canada those prices are with a 3-year term and in the US on AT&T with 2-year contract. It’s cheap, it has 3G and GPS. What more can you ask for?
Rogers Press Release
WWDC SAN FRANCISCO and TORONTO, June 9 /CNW/ – Rogers Communications and Apple(R) today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone(TM) 3G will be available in Canada on July 11. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.
“Rogers has a long history of bringing Canadians the very best in wireless services, networks and handset innovations,” said Rob Bruce, president, Rogers Wireless. “With iPhone 3G, we will provide our customers with an amazing mobile experience over Canada’s fastest wireless network.”
“We’re excited to be working with Rogers to bring iPhone 3G to Canada,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s COO. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary phone in the hands of even more people around the world.” iPhone 3G will operate on Rogers’ High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network, the fastest mobile network in Canada. HSPA is nationally available in the top Canadian urban centers from Vancouver to Halifax, covering more than 60 percent of the population. iPhone 3G will also operate on Roger’s coast-to-coast GSM/EDGE network, proven to be the country’s most reliable wireless network. Starting July 11, iPhone 3G will sell for $199 for the 8Gb model and $299 for the 16Gb model, on a three-year plan. More details on price plans and retail availability will be available soon.

$199 for 8GB with 2 year contract in US! we don’t know for sure what rogers/fido will do to us…
if you check apple canada iphone page, it does not say something like “Starting at $199″ like US page. Well, the page does not mention about price at all!!!
mikenet.
sorry..we updated the post. we had some word that the Rogers price would be the same but we later found out that its the same only on a 3 year contract. no word yet on 2 year pricing but obviously its going to be more than AT&T iPhones. go figure.
No word on Rogers unlimited pricing? I’m sure it will be more expensive than the State!
Been a Rogers customer for many years 17+ and when I started getting raped on data usage fees I went and bought an Iphone and now use a US carrier. I still carry my Rogers blackberry for a phone but all data and browsing is done on my At&T legal phone. Even with the price of the phone it was cheaper than using a paid for Blackberry on the network I have supported for all this time! So Rogers had better wake up as it a global world and the hoops to get a legal US Iphone is pretty easy and there will still be hacked old phones on the market too! They may not do everything the 3g phones do but I doubt most people use 30 percent of the capability! I just called Rogers and they are releasing nothing on the pricing structure and there customer service reps are sending people to GSMarena.com for info. I felt like calling back and telling them I knew everything about the phone!! More than them most likely! The price point of there unlimited data plan was what I wanted to know…It is really hard not to be discouraged by this company, it screams poor practices. They are no doubt counting on a mass rush to get the 199 or 299 phone! The hardware costs may be good but at what costs? A signed 3 year contract! If they don’t get the numbers the data plan will have to drop until they do leaving the first buyers locked into contracts as they wanted it first! Think I will sit back and use my old 16 gig on the US network until the smoke clears.
