When can we expect Microsoft to finally take the wraps off their long overdue and highly anticipated Windows Mobile 7 OS? If Electonista’s hunch is correct, it might all go down in next month’s MWC event in Barcelona, Spain.

Windows MobileMicrosoft gave a little tidbit at their recent conference call revealing that they’ll be showing off a new version of Windows Mobile at the said event. Microsoft CFO Peter Klein divulged that they’ll be showing off the latest iteration of Windows Mobile at an event in Barcelona “in a few weeks” time. Unless they’ve got a whole event to themselves scheduled for next month in Barcelona, we’re pretty certain that what their referring to here is the annual Mobile World Congress.

Of course, there's also a rumor that suggests that it’s actually Windows Mobile 6.6 they’ll be launching at MWC, and since Klein never mentioned a version, we’re still not sure what they’ll be unveiling in next month’s big event.

In similar news, Eldar Murtazin has posted the system requirements needed to run Windows Mobile 7. A minimum 512MB ROM and 128MB RAM is required although it’s recommended to have at least 256MB RAM on-board. At least a 600MHz ARM v6+ processor is also necessary while it’s recommended that an accelerometer and built-in compass are likewise bundled with the phone as well. If true, the steep system requirements basically rules out the possibility of Windows Mobile 7 being installed on older handsets. Anyway, before we get ahead of ourselves with this one, let's just wait for everything to become official first before we prematurely judge Microsoft's latest OS offering.
