A sleek case design and low price are attractive factors for this budget smartphone. CNet calls the phone “an inexpensive foray into Android.” Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch display and 2GB storage, it is easy to see how Huawei kept the price on the phone low. While it is certainly underpowered compared to many of the newest phones on the market, it is exceptionally affordable on contract or as a pay-as-you-go option.
The camera lacks a flash and data is limited to 3G speeds, however, the phone functions well and the design of the phone provides a comfortable, durable feel. Another perk to the low specs of the device is battery life. CNet found the battery to be good for nearly 10 hours of talk time on a single charge with standby lasting for over day with light usage. They summed up the phone well when they said, “If you're looking for an inexpensive smartphone and you aren't particular about speed or high-end specs, the Huawei Ascend Y's inexpensive price tag will get you in the door.”
The Good: Attractive case design, decent battery life and low price.
The Bad: Outdated hardware and software, slow data connectivity and sub-par camera.
