Yes, there is a smiley on droid 3. Look where your home page, search and return symbols are; the square with 4 small squares is the symbol you press to bring up the smileys to insert. Simply press and there is your choice of smileys

The Droid 3 doesn't have smileys but you can download keyboards such as Emoji or Emoticon keyboard.
