Will the BlackBerry 8800’s GPS work even without a service provider?
If I purchase the BlackBerry 8800 with GPS support, will the GPS work even if I do not subscribe to a wireless service provider? And if I do subscribe to a wireless service provider will they charge additional money for accessing GPS features and maps?

the gps will work for emergency location purposes but most carriers disable gps functionality without a subscription service which means you'll miss out on the turn-by-turn directions, etc.
To take advantage of the phones GPS functionality, you'll need to subscribe to a GPS service.
it's worth trying blackberry maps or google maps or yahoo maps to see if your carrier is locking it down. or..ask them up front.
Thanks Branden, I couldn't figure out why the GPS wasn't working on my blackberry but that makes sense now.
