Pocket-lint

The best Amazon Echo there's ever been

from Pocket-lint

If music is the most important thing for you, then it's hard to ignore the boosted performance of the new Echo. Previous Echos had limitations, but to have a great low price and pleasing sound quality means that the new Echo sweeps those criticisms aside.

If you want a speaker with this feature set and Amazon Alexa built-in, the third-generation Echo is still a decent option for budgets below three figures. But if sound quality is your main concern, then you’re better off either forgoing the voice control or waiting and saving up for the Echo Plus. We don’t want to appear overly critical of Amazon, but the Echo is quite good and nothing more. Prior evidence suggests it could have done much better.

Great audio quality

from Smartprix

Perhaps the best-sounding smart home speaker under Rs. 10,000. It’s more receptive mic-array makes it better suited for installation in large spaces as compared to Echo dots and Echo show 5.

Makes the previous Echo – and Echo Plus – obsolete

from TechRadar

The Amazon Echo (2019) doesn’t feel particular new, given both its form and function is modeled on the existing Echo Plus – but it's still an excellent smart speaker that offers better sound quality than the second-generation Echo.

There’s less to say about the new Echo, but the one notable addition is it now looks and sounds like the Echo Plus. It looks like a tall Echo Dot, and features a slight curve on the top compared to the flat lid of the 2nd gen Echo. With the new speaker setup, the smart speaker sounds better and gets louder than the previous iteration. While it doesn’t emit sound with as much detail as the Echo Studio, the first time I heard it, I was impressed. I used it for my main living room speaker for a few days, and I don’t have any complaints.

The Echo and Echo Dot (2019) are excellent. Without revolutionizing its speakers, Amazon has succeeded in significantly improving the sound quality of its devices whilst keeping prices as affordable as ever. The possibility of combining two or more speakers finally allows you to enjoy stereo sound and is an interesting advantage. Alexa is still as easy to use on both models as Google Assistant is.

Better performance for less money

If you want the absolute best available from a speaker in the Echo family, you'll want to hold off for our final verdict on the Amazon Echo Studio, which offers room-filling 3D audio for a very competitive price. But for a smart speaker under the £100 mark, Amazon's third crack at the Echo is hard to fault.

Low-priced, but not low-end

The latest Echo does just about everything right: It sounds great, it’s pretty cheap and it handles voice commands like a charm. The only downside is that there are a lot of other smart speakers to choose.
