With its extensive endorsements and sponsorships, there’s a good chance you’ve seen IPVanish all over the web. But does their service live up to the marketing hype? Let’s see what experts are saying about this popular VPN.
For pricing, you can’t get much simpler than IPVanish.
There are three plans from which to choose -- which all offer the same features.
Billing options include every month, every three months, once a year. The monthly price is comparable to other mainstream VPN services. But you can save money if you’re willing to go with a longer subscription.
IPVanish offers apps for Android, iOS, Linux, Mac, ChromeOS, and Windows. If that’s not enough, you can even configure it to work on routers and Windows Phones.
Why have a VPN on your router? This allows you to protect hardware that doesn’t support VPN apps -- such as your PlayStation, Smart TV, or Roku.
IPVanish tries to stand apart from the crowd with their client UI. But, for those familiar with VPNs, their changes might be jarring.
Instead of having the standard connect/disconnect button and a list of locations, IPVanish’s panel hides your country choices in dropdown lists and has two buttons -- connect/disconnect and on/off -- which essentially do the same thing.
It’s not a VPN that’s user friendly.
However, TechRadar notes, “Its client looks more complex than the competition, but that’s mostly because they have more features and functionality…”
IPVanish gives you 10 simultaneous connections. That’s a lot more than most other VPN services.
IPVanish comes with plenty of features. Popular ones include:
IPVanish also offers a great deal of control over your OpenVPN setup. You can choose which port to use and can also obfuscate the traffic to avoid detection in geo-restricted areas such as China.
The company’s privacy policy states they do not collect or log any traffic and do not sell or rent personal information to third-parties.
Despite this, IPVanish responded to a summons from the US Department of Homeland Security to hand over information on user activities in 2016.
But since then StackPath bought IPVanish. They stated publicly, “With no exception IPVanish does not, has not, and will not log or store logs of our users as a StackPath company.”
You’ll always experience some slowdown when web browsing using a VPN -- either with slower upload or download speeds or higher latency. However, when put to the test, reviewers were pleasantly surprised with IPVanish’s overall performance.
IPVanish touts 24/7 customer support -- complete with live chat. This makes them a great choice if you want help immediately. If you can wait for one to two days, you can submit support tickets.
Self-help options include a useful support center and knowledge base. However, reviewers noted some answers are short. If you’re looking for detailed answers, you’ll want to use email support or live chat.

IPVanish is effective and reliable, with particularly good connection speeds on endpoints in mainland Europe. However, Kaspersky Secure Connection is much cheaper and significantly faster. If streaming TV is a priority, then Windscribe would be a better alternative, while Private Internet Access remained our recommended VPN for the privacy-conscious.
IPVanish is a polished, well-designed VPN with an impressive and highly configurable set of privacy features. If you’re looking for control, however, you’ll struggle to find another VPN that comes close.

IPVanish is highly configurable with some fast locations, but the Windows client can be awkward to use.

IPVanish does have some good points. We like that they have advanced features. Users with VPN experience will appreciate being able to control the finer points of their VPN service.

IPVanish is a passable VPN service, but its speed isn't great and it doesn't do enough to stand out from the crowd.
