Unlike some of its most popular offerings in the worldwide tablet market, Samsung’s Series 7 11.6-inch Slate doesn’t run a version of Android. Instead, it comes with 64-bit Windows 7 pre-installed as its operating system, and it utilizes an Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM as standard. As you can imagine, it’s one powerful tablet computer. It comes with the rather predictable downside of being very disappointing when it comes to battery life, though. So if you need something long lasting, you better look away.
As its name suggests, this tablet comes equipped with an 11.6-inch LED-backlit touchscreen display which has a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels. This makes it capable of displaying HD video quite easily and perfect for watching movies with its 16:9 aspect ratio. In terms of wireless features, it has 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. It even supports Intel’s WiDi technology which will enable it to connect to any compatible display wirelessly.
The thing that really sets it apart from many other tablets on the market that you might have already heard of is the fact that it runs the full version of the Windows 7 desktop software. You can run any and all compatible Windows 7 software programs. And with the included keyboard dock plus the option to use a mouse, you can easily turn it into a much more portable laptop replacement.
Before you start to think that this Samsung tablet is the answer to all of your mobile computing problems, you should know that based on test results conducted for various reviews, it can’t even achieve 4 hours of use per charge. The onboard Intel processor is simply that much more of a power hog and as such, it’s difficult to seriously consider this as a main mobile computing device. Perhaps if you really can’t survive without using Windows on your tablet PC, this is worth the struggle with battery life. And you’ll know exactly how tough that struggle will be, especially since you will have to pay the $1000+ price tag first to get started using it.
