6/10
Informr score
The HP Slate 7 Extreme currently has an Informr score of 6 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 1 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Powerful processor
  • Comfortable build
  • Thoughtful stylus integration

What's bad

  • Sub-par imaging performance
  • Below average battery life

The Slate 7 Extreme is a 7 inch Android tablet that follows on the heels of the HP Slate 7, with HP equipping this version with the more powerful quad-core Tegra 4 chip and a stylus. The stylus works in conjunction with HP’s palm rejection technology which, as the moniker implies, prevents the screen (800 x 1280 pixel resolution) from responding to impressions made when resting your palm on the screen.

Reviewers liked the feel and design of the stylus, including CNET, which said, “While using the stylus, the screen was quick to respond with no lag time.” Singapore Hardware Zone added, “Its stylus-optimized apps may not be as extensive and feature-packed as Samsung, but they should meet the needs of the mainstream consumers who just need a tablet to take down notes.”

Additional features include a mini HDMI out port, so you can connect it to a larger screen, front-facing stereo speakers, Camera Awesome - an app which allows the device to take pictures in HDR and videos in slow-motion, and the aptly-named Lasso feature, which lets you draw a circle around content you want to save or share.

Overall, reviewers found the HP Slate 7 Extreme responsive, comfortable to hold, and an overall improvement over the Slate 7. Android Police summed up by saying, “If you're on the fence about a Tegra Note device, however, I have no issues recommending the Slate 7 Extreme.”
