There are plenty of budget-friendly Android tablets flooding the marketplace. Among the many tablets is the 7” Ematic eGlide Steal.
At just over $100, this tablet is much cheaper than other alternatives like the Google Nexus 7 and iPad Mini though it certainly won’t have the same type of quality in terms of onboard storage, memory and processing speed. For the price, however, the Ematic eGlide Steal is a perfect tablet for people who will use the tablet for basic functions like email, ereading and internet browsing.
The screen offers a capacitive touch system although the screen resolution itself is relatively low at 800x480. Despite the low screen resolution, the tablet does offer 1080p video playback and a mini-HDMI port so interested users can plug in the eGlide Steal to their television. The tablet also comes with a mini-USB port so users can plug in keyboards, etc. for easier typing.
Aside from this, the tablet has relatively good specs for the offered price and comes with 1GB of memory, 4GB of onboard storage and 5GB of cloud storage, micro-SD slot, 1GHz dual-core processor and a 3-axis gyroscope and accelerometer.
Due to the low costs of the tablet, there are a few drawbacks aside from the low screen resolution. One of the major issues with the eGlide Steal is the inconsistent battery life. Upon first use, the battery will last a day even with use, however it quickly goes down to about 3 hours of battery life when in use. The capacitive touch can also be inaccurate and touch parts of the screen that were not selected. Unfortunately, there is no way to calibrate this problem.
Consumers looking to purchase a tablet for simple everyday use like checking emails and the internet will be hard pressed to find a better tablet than the Ematic eGlide Steal for the price. That being said, consumers looking to do more intensive gaming or usage might need to spend the extra money for a higher quality tablet.
The Good: Cheap price, expandable micro-SD slot, 5GB of cloud storage in addition to 4GB onboard storage.
The Bad: Poor battery life, low screen resolution, inaccurate touch screen.
